Good to know: The lake is for views and a calm couple of hours, not for swimming trips; cruises do not include a beach stop. Most of what you see you can also see from the regular public boats, so a booked cruise earns its price mainly through the lunch, the commentary or the combination. Weather matters: on a grey day the mountains simply are not there.

Frequently asked questions

Are Pilatus, Rigi and Titlis in Lucerne itself?

No. Pilatus is reached by boat to Alpnachstad and a cogwheel railway, or by gondola and cableway from Kriens. Rigi starts from Vitznau or Arth-Goldau. Titlis lies above Engelberg and is reached by train from Lucerne plus cable cars. Each is a trip of its own, so plan about half a day per mountain.

How long is a Jungfraujoch day trip from Lucerne?

The listed Jungfraujoch tours from Lucerne are long days of around ten hours, mostly spent travelling. If you only have one day, a nearer mountain gives you more time at the top.

Does Lucerne have a beach?

No. Lucerne lies on a lake, not by the sea. The cruises on this site are sightseeing boat trips, not swimming trips.

Why are tours from Zurich not listed here?

Many popular Lucerne tours start in Zurich. They are a different starting point, so we list only offers that begin in Lucerne. If you are staying in Zurich, check the departure point before you book.

Is a Swiss Travel Pass worth it?

Only if you will travel a lot. For a few days around Lucerne, single tickets can be cheaper. Compare your planned journeys with the pass price and check on the booking page which mountain lines are included.

What happens if the summit is in cloud?

You still pay for the ride, and the view can be white. Check the forecast and webcam on the day, and choose an offer with free cancellation that fits your plans.

What does Lucerne not offer?

There is no sea, no beach and no big list of sights inside the city: the old town, the Chapel Bridge and the Lion Monument fill a day or two. The famous mountains and the Jungfrau region are excursions, not part of the city.
